Leela

An ancient game of self-discovery: seeing
your life more honestly than usual

With meWith the AI guideYour own video room

An ancient game of self-discovery.
A deep psychological and spiritual process.
A projective practice.

A game in which you look at your life a little more honestly than usual: at your choices, the stories that keep repeating, your doubts and the desires that have long gone unspoken.

Leela is played on a board of 72 squares, where rolls of the die move the token. The board is a metaphor for the path of life: every square has a name and a meaning, and your game unfolds against these meanings.

how to play

Question

Come with a question and roll the die. You enter the game on a six: while you wait for it, you and your guide refine your question.

Path

Arrows lift you up, snakes take you down, sometimes by several levels in a single move.

Guide

Live or AI, the guide opens up the meaning of the squares and links them to your question. The guide keeps the rules in mind, and your part is to live it.

The way out

The game ends on square 68, “Cosmic Consciousness”, right where the token waited for a six.

What you leave with

Clarity and your own answers to the questions you bring into the game. It is not fortune telling and not therapy. You decide.

history of the game

In Sanskrit, “leela” means divine play

The Vedas and the first dice

The Rigveda, the oldest text of Hinduism, already holds the hymn of a gambler who lost everything at dice.

The laws of the game

The Upanishads and the “Gita” give the game its laws: karma, samsara and moksha, the way out of the circle.

Tradition credits the game to the poet Jnaneshwar. He turned vices into snakes and virtues into arrows.

The game of knowledge

Meanings erased

In London the game is registered as the children’s “Snakes and Ladders”. The names of the squares are erased.

The squares return

Harish Johari gives the squares back their names and meanings. This board, too, follows his canon.

Cloth, cardboard or a screen. Any board, the same meanings.

Chances are, you’ll recognise yourself here

You feel something is missing in your life: closeness, or money, or freedom. The game shows exactly where the gap opened up.

There is a wish but no plan. The game turns a vague intention into a first step.

Everything is stable, but you sense much more in yourself. The game helps you choose where exactly to step.

You have been trying for a long time, and nothing moves. The game shows what has stopped working.

Questions about calling and meaning, with no one to talk them over with. The game becomes that someone.

A decision hangs in the balance, and a mistake feels costly. The game lets you look at it without fear or other people’s advice.

how to prepare

You can start
by meeting the guide

In about fifteen minutes you learn more about Leela as a tool, and I learn about you. If needed, I’ll suggest how to work with your question.

Free get-to-know-you call

Two or three days before

No alcohol, plenty of sleep, less rush.

Time

Keep the whole evening free: the quiet after the game is part of the process too. Put your phone in flight mode and switch the sound off completely.

Notebook and pen

Whatever comes up during the game is worth writing down straight away.

If you play online

A quiet place, a good connection and a bigger screen. Better not on a phone.

No ready question needed

It is about what matters most to you right now: a wish, an intention, a question or simply a theme.

How to find your question

  • Write down everything that worries you: a real question often hides behind the list of “shoulds”.
  • Start small: what keeps me from feeling calmer today?
  • Listen for the response: the right question brings goosebumps or a rush of energy.
Collage: the Buddha's head floats in the sky above a grassy slope, with two hands in the teaching gesture on either side

Reviews from people who have already played

For a long time my life had been a kind of mess I couldn’t get out of on my own: I had neither the strength nor the habit of reflection. Our session literally put everything in its place.
Marina, 34
Honestly, I’m still amazed at how differently I’ve started to see things. We dug into places I never even thought of looking.
Olya, 27
Such a surge of energy. It feels like I really have shifted my track a little and started to see more clearly. There’s a lovely lightness in my heart.
Dasha, 23
The game turned out to be very much about being honest with myself. And that, as it turns out, can be harder than being honest with others. At first I was really nervous, but with you as my guide I felt comfortable and safe.
Katya, 31
It was as if you had fully immersed yourself in who I am: you knew how to approach me, where to look, and helped me make sense of everything through the lens of my personality and my stage of life.
